New thoughts and experiences

I just think that from now on I only write posts which summarize a little bit the best, outstanding activities. Because I haven't got the time to post something every day and it might become a little bit stale. On Thursday we went to the pictures. I have learnt that people here don't really use the word cinema any more. It became outdated in these days. They say "the pictures" and "wood" instead of forrest. That are little details that you only get aware of when you are living here and hear the people speaking. So we went to the pictures with Max and Jan and saw "Far from the madding crowd" by Thomas Hardy. I must admit that I did not read the book but the film was really fabulous. We went to Loughborough in the cinema "Odeon" and there weren't many people so we could decide where we would like to sit. I really liked the set and the costumes the people wore! And the actress (Carey Mulligan) is brilliant. She smiles in a way that makes you smile as well. The film was dramatic but (of course) it had an happy ending.

Yesterday I was with J. at a birthday party. The man had his 75th birthday and they celebrated in a pub which was called "the plough". There were many people and his daugther had organied the party as a suprise. There was a huge buffet and you could decide what you want to eat. It was very different from our kind of German buffet but i liked the fact that after everyone was full, you were able to pack you a "doggy bag" with food for the evening. I was not able to take a picture of the gorgeous which a friend of John had made.
We went home and had a little  break and in the evening we went to J.'s  choir practice and I was asked if I would like to join singing. I said "yes!" and so I was standing in the alto and sang with them. It was great fun. After and hour of singing we went straight to Max and Jan because it was again Scrabble time. They were very nice host and we played for nearly 3 hours. In between we had a break with wine, cheese and biscuits. It is kind of an ritual here.
The evening went on and we were at home at 11pm. I fell fast asleep.

Today we had breakfast as usual, went out with the dog (as usual, too) and shortly afterwards Bethan came around by car to pick us up for a cofee date. We went to "Haven" a nice little village with a farm-café. It was so pretty we had cappuccinos and lattes and bought some buns for lunch.
While we were eating J. lost one tooth! What a shock! She needs to go to the dentist but of course the dentist is closed at midday. So now she waits and waits for the dentist to open.
We will see what comes of it!

Loch Earn- Camping for Sailing

Our weekend at Loch Earn   Loch Earn Now I am already 1 month away from home. How the time rushes! I am happy to make all these experiences. We went camping to "Loch Earn" which is a lake. In Scotland one calls a lake a "loch". The English people have difficulties to pronunce that word, but for Scotish people and German it is easy. The kids sailed and therefore we camped all together there. I must admit: This was my first real camping experience. Since then I only camped at festivals like "Rock am Ring". The proper camping is more luxurious than our party-camping. I had a thick, comfy blowing-up matress and also a cushion(!). We had warm showers with seperate cabins and we had enough electricity. That was really good. My host family are camping-experts so they bought everything we need for cooking, drinking, etc. At our first day it was so windy. We managed to build our tents up and as soon as we were inside it started to rain! What a luck! The ...

Inchcolm Abbey and the Royal Gallery

A lonely island next to the city centre- Inchcolm   This Saturday we took the ferry and went to Inchcolm Abbey. It's a beautfiul island in the Firth of Forth in Scotland. From Edinburgh we drove only 15 minutes to get the ferry and it cost 16 pounds to get to the island and back. Your first thought is that "Wow. This is quit expensive", but it was really worth going on the island! The tour was guided so the speaker told us a lot about the history of the 2 finished bridges and the one which is still in progress at the moment. It was really interesting to hear all about the bridges the railway bridge is for example now Scotland's sixth world heritage site. Then we arrived at the island which is cared for by Historic Scotland. On the island there is an abbey from the 12th century which was built by King David the First. The abbey and it's grounds are fully open to the public and it was so nice to wander around. There are a lot of birds on the island. It...

First Day

Start of my journey- Everything new My journey started on 6th May. I travelled by Eurostar to Bruxelles and from there straight to Loughborough. We came to Bruxelles and it was very busy there. Many people were running in different directions. My parents and me had enough time to spend some at a Häagen Dazs Café-quite expensive! But after a coffee americano/ cappuccino and some delicious Häagen Dazs ice-cream(banana/caramel i had to say "Goodbye". It was a sad situation and me and my mother cried (only a little bit!) before I was totally on my own. I managed the tour to London St. Pancras and from threre I had only 30 minutes to catch the East Midlands train to Loughborough. There were some trouble so I arrived 25 minutes later than I planned. But everything turned out fine. Judith catched me up and we drove home to East Leake. A little village with a supermarket, a pub, a butcher, some cafés, a vet, more churches and so on and so forth. She cooked me a perfect meal with...
