Spending Time in the South

Since Monday we are in Surrey, a county in the South of England. The family lives in a big house with a beautiful garden and a lot of space. It is really fantastic to have your own bathroom with everything you need. After being at Polesden Lacey on Tuesday we went to a ice-skating competition on Wednesday. In this competition the son of R.'s friend partook and therefore she knew about it. It was in a huge leisure centre in Guildford and many people sat in the audience. We saw girls and boys from sixteen to eighteen and it was a new experience. It was funny to see how the families were thrilled for their kids. The girls had worn beautiful but very short dresses and the guys were dressed in black. It was a whole new world and it must be very hard for the boys and girls to stay up early in the morning to practice ice-skating. R.'s friend explained to us her son must stay up at 4o'clock in the morning to train before school. It was not allowed to take photos so I haven't got any photo of the competition.

We went in the city for lunch in a beautiful location. Everything was rose and pastel blue and they had a fantastic china with flowers and other nice things. R. had not enough time to stay longer so J. and I went to the Wisley Garden show. It was only a 20-minutes drive and I must admit I don't no much about flowers and gardening. But this show was really interesting ! There was a huge (!) park and you can go there in every season. In the park there are many different sections and on one side there stands a gigantic glasshouse which contains a lot of special tropical flowers. I liked the geraniums the most. They were in all different colours and heights. We also liked the new "handkerchief-tree" which was very tall and amazing! It also looked a little bit like if there were many doves on the tree.
In the park there was also an amazing house in which the staff could work and research. J. said that she would like to live there but I cannot imagine living in such a crowded place. We wandered around the sculpture exhibition and there were some weird things, some funny pieces of art (like dolphins which looked like if they would swim on the grass) but also many beautiful things. J. liked the sculpture made of glass and different colours so I made a photo for her.

We stayed there for 3 hours and wandered around. I have never seen so many different kinds of flowers and it was absolutely worth it!

Loch Earn- Camping for Sailing

Our weekend at Loch Earn   Loch Earn Now I am already 1 month away from home. How the time rushes! I am happy to make all these experiences. We went camping to "Loch Earn" which is a lake. In Scotland one calls a lake a "loch". The English people have difficulties to pronunce that word, but for Scotish people and German it is easy. The kids sailed and therefore we camped all together there. I must admit: This was my first real camping experience. Since then I only camped at festivals like "Rock am Ring". The proper camping is more luxurious than our party-camping. I had a thick, comfy blowing-up matress and also a cushion(!). We had warm showers with seperate cabins and we had enough electricity. That was really good. My host family are camping-experts so they bought everything we need for cooking, drinking, etc. At our first day it was so windy. We managed to build our tents up and as soon as we were inside it started to rain! What a luck! The ...

Inchcolm Abbey and the Royal Gallery

A lonely island next to the city centre- Inchcolm   This Saturday we took the ferry and went to Inchcolm Abbey. It's a beautfiul island in the Firth of Forth in Scotland. From Edinburgh we drove only 15 minutes to get the ferry and it cost 16 pounds to get to the island and back. Your first thought is that "Wow. This is quit expensive", but it was really worth going on the island! The tour was guided so the speaker told us a lot about the history of the 2 finished bridges and the one which is still in progress at the moment. It was really interesting to hear all about the bridges the railway bridge is for example now Scotland's sixth world heritage site. Then we arrived at the island which is cared for by Historic Scotland. On the island there is an abbey from the 12th century which was built by King David the First. The abbey and it's grounds are fully open to the public and it was so nice to wander around. There are a lot of birds on the island. It...

First Day

Start of my journey- Everything new My journey started on 6th May. I travelled by Eurostar to Bruxelles and from there straight to Loughborough. We came to Bruxelles and it was very busy there. Many people were running in different directions. My parents and me had enough time to spend some at a Häagen Dazs Café-quite expensive! But after a coffee americano/ cappuccino and some delicious Häagen Dazs ice-cream(banana/caramel i had to say "Goodbye". It was a sad situation and me and my mother cried (only a little bit!) before I was totally on my own. I managed the tour to London St. Pancras and from threre I had only 30 minutes to catch the East Midlands train to Loughborough. There were some trouble so I arrived 25 minutes later than I planned. But everything turned out fine. Judith catched me up and we drove home to East Leake. A little village with a supermarket, a pub, a butcher, some cafés, a vet, more churches and so on and so forth. She cooked me a perfect meal with...
