One day in Norwich

One day in Norwich

Yesterday was a fabulous day. After we have done some grocery shopping in the village we went to Norwich. Norwich was 50 minutes far away from our cottage and it was really worth driving for one hour to our destination. We drove to Norwich via Park and Ride and in my opinion the Park and Ride system is a very elaborate and useful sytsem. It makes life easier: you don't have to drive into the city, so you miss the busy traffic, you don't need to look for a parking space, and you get directly into the city centre. One our way to the Park and Ride we came across a dairy farm and had local ice-cream. That was really nice! They had all different kinds of sorts like for example: banana-toffee, wild strawberries or tiramisu.
Dann's ice-cream-so tasty!

Norwich  is so beautiful. The funny thing was: We wanted to go into the cathedral and look around and thought that dog's are not permitted there. But when we asked a lady if it is really the case she said that dogs are allowed and that we can take him inside! That we could do the whole tour together was a big surprise for us.

on our way to the cathedral

We had the guided tour at 3o'clock and David our guide was really bright. He knew a lot about all the different paintings, inscriptions and murals and he told his fact with a lot of enthusiam. The church was mainly divided into two parts. The first part was open to everybody, for the public and the second part was for the better people like for example a bishop. There were beautiful windows and the ceiling was full of little stories.

The church was without any entrance fees so that was really good. One could decide if he or she wants to pay 5 pounds or more as a donation. I was really impressed about how well-organized the staff was. Two people welcomed us at the entrance, our tour guide was as a just said so good  and if you had any questions you could ask anybody in church. They all helped and tried to answer your questions.
We could also take a closer look at an exhibition by Ana Maria Pacheco. She built wooden figures which were lifelike and life-sized. They look so dramatic! She presented two wanderes. A younger wanderer is carrying an older one on his shoulders. The other people around are looking pejoratively.
The art stood in contrast to the other items in church because it was more modern but it was just great to wander around and see how she did it.

We had coffee and cake at the café and we got a discount of 10% because we took part in the tour.
I would say you can spend a whole week in Norwich because there is a lot to see. In the city there was an exhibition were all different brands or firms designed dragons. They were all around the pedestrian zone and I liked one glittery dragon the most.

Maybe I'll come back another day.

Loch Earn- Camping for Sailing

Our weekend at Loch Earn   Loch Earn Now I am already 1 month away from home. How the time rushes! I am happy to make all these experiences. We went camping to "Loch Earn" which is a lake. In Scotland one calls a lake a "loch". The English people have difficulties to pronunce that word, but for Scotish people and German it is easy. The kids sailed and therefore we camped all together there. I must admit: This was my first real camping experience. Since then I only camped at festivals like "Rock am Ring". The proper camping is more luxurious than our party-camping. I had a thick, comfy blowing-up matress and also a cushion(!). We had warm showers with seperate cabins and we had enough electricity. That was really good. My host family are camping-experts so they bought everything we need for cooking, drinking, etc. At our first day it was so windy. We managed to build our tents up and as soon as we were inside it started to rain! What a luck! The ...

Inchcolm Abbey and the Royal Gallery

A lonely island next to the city centre- Inchcolm   This Saturday we took the ferry and went to Inchcolm Abbey. It's a beautfiul island in the Firth of Forth in Scotland. From Edinburgh we drove only 15 minutes to get the ferry and it cost 16 pounds to get to the island and back. Your first thought is that "Wow. This is quit expensive", but it was really worth going on the island! The tour was guided so the speaker told us a lot about the history of the 2 finished bridges and the one which is still in progress at the moment. It was really interesting to hear all about the bridges the railway bridge is for example now Scotland's sixth world heritage site. Then we arrived at the island which is cared for by Historic Scotland. On the island there is an abbey from the 12th century which was built by King David the First. The abbey and it's grounds are fully open to the public and it was so nice to wander around. There are a lot of birds on the island. It...

First Day

Start of my journey- Everything new My journey started on 6th May. I travelled by Eurostar to Bruxelles and from there straight to Loughborough. We came to Bruxelles and it was very busy there. Many people were running in different directions. My parents and me had enough time to spend some at a Häagen Dazs Café-quite expensive! But after a coffee americano/ cappuccino and some delicious Häagen Dazs ice-cream(banana/caramel i had to say "Goodbye". It was a sad situation and me and my mother cried (only a little bit!) before I was totally on my own. I managed the tour to London St. Pancras and from threre I had only 30 minutes to catch the East Midlands train to Loughborough. There were some trouble so I arrived 25 minutes later than I planned. But everything turned out fine. Judith catched me up and we drove home to East Leake. A little village with a supermarket, a pub, a butcher, some cafés, a vet, more churches and so on and so forth. She cooked me a perfect meal with...
