A week in North Norfolk

Holiday time!

We are at the moment in Snettisham which is a village in North Norfolk near the east coast. Our cottage is a typical gingerbread house. That kind of building is typical for the area. The houses are brownish red and look sometimes very tiny but nice.
We are staying for one week here and half of the week is over now. The time is going so fast. Near to our village is Sandringham.

That's the place were the royal family stays when they have holiday and want to spend their time together in a nice surrounding. William, Kate and Harry went to our village in the art gallery and in the pub. The pub here in our village is so posh and nice! We had a coffee outside and the garden is so lovely.
When we visited Sandringham we had a guided tour around and saw all the places where the royal family spend their time. The rooms were really impressive and the pictures were just stunning!
I really liked the pieces of art in the house. There was one very good and humerous painting with which the artist showed a coronation. He hightlighted a woman and when we asked a guide who that woman is she said that it's not a famous woman, it's just the artist's mistress. He put her in the middle of the painting and several men looked in her direction. The guide said that the queen has got a very funny humour.
On one of our other days we went to King's Lynn. That's a small village and we first had coffee (as usual) after that we went into a fishermen cottage. That was really interesting because we could see how the families lived in 1900. One family was presented. They lived there with 9 (!) children in a tiny little cottage.
The guide mentioned that 5 childre slept near the top of the bed and 4 at the bottom.
We also went to see an art exhibition which was called "Things I like". The artist talked about his favourie items for example a guitar with pictures of the Beatles or a pair of Biker shoes. Some items were really funny and I liked the way the artist talked about it. He was really passionate about his pieces of art.
Yesterday morning was the best day so far. In the morning we just went into the village into small little shops like for example a book shop or the local charity shop. We bought fresh things for lunch and enjoyed it outside in the sun. Afterwards we drove to Wells-next-the-Sea and went along the beach pier with Patch.

We collected shells and threw stones in the water. He loves to fetch them and carries them back to us. It's so nice to see him being happy in the sea!
After a nice walk we went into the city centre into small arty shops. I bought some presents for my friends at home and J. found a beautiful flowery hat which she presented me. I was very happy with it and wore it the whole day. We had fish and chips in another seaside location because the shops in Wells were too crowded.

Wells-next-the-Sea is a typical seaside beach. It was full of english families and other holiday makers.
I really enjoy the time here and I think I might come back to show my family the nice area around Norfolk!

Loch Earn- Camping for Sailing

Our weekend at Loch Earn   Loch Earn Now I am already 1 month away from home. How the time rushes! I am happy to make all these experiences. We went camping to "Loch Earn" which is a lake. In Scotland one calls a lake a "loch". The English people have difficulties to pronunce that word, but for Scotish people and German it is easy. The kids sailed and therefore we camped all together there. I must admit: This was my first real camping experience. Since then I only camped at festivals like "Rock am Ring". The proper camping is more luxurious than our party-camping. I had a thick, comfy blowing-up matress and also a cushion(!). We had warm showers with seperate cabins and we had enough electricity. That was really good. My host family are camping-experts so they bought everything we need for cooking, drinking, etc. At our first day it was so windy. We managed to build our tents up and as soon as we were inside it started to rain! What a luck! The ...

Inchcolm Abbey and the Royal Gallery

A lonely island next to the city centre- Inchcolm   This Saturday we took the ferry and went to Inchcolm Abbey. It's a beautfiul island in the Firth of Forth in Scotland. From Edinburgh we drove only 15 minutes to get the ferry and it cost 16 pounds to get to the island and back. Your first thought is that "Wow. This is quit expensive", but it was really worth going on the island! The tour was guided so the speaker told us a lot about the history of the 2 finished bridges and the one which is still in progress at the moment. It was really interesting to hear all about the bridges the railway bridge is for example now Scotland's sixth world heritage site. Then we arrived at the island which is cared for by Historic Scotland. On the island there is an abbey from the 12th century which was built by King David the First. The abbey and it's grounds are fully open to the public and it was so nice to wander around. There are a lot of birds on the island. It...

First Day

Start of my journey- Everything new My journey started on 6th May. I travelled by Eurostar to Bruxelles and from there straight to Loughborough. We came to Bruxelles and it was very busy there. Many people were running in different directions. My parents and me had enough time to spend some at a Häagen Dazs Café-quite expensive! But after a coffee americano/ cappuccino and some delicious Häagen Dazs ice-cream(banana/caramel i had to say "Goodbye". It was a sad situation and me and my mother cried (only a little bit!) before I was totally on my own. I managed the tour to London St. Pancras and from threre I had only 30 minutes to catch the East Midlands train to Loughborough. There were some trouble so I arrived 25 minutes later than I planned. But everything turned out fine. Judith catched me up and we drove home to East Leake. A little village with a supermarket, a pub, a butcher, some cafés, a vet, more churches and so on and so forth. She cooked me a perfect meal with...
