Manchester

Hi everyone!

My last week at work was really really busy. It was kind of unsatisfying because I had so much work and did not get any reward for it and therefore I was really looking forward to spending the weekend away with my sister who knows me very well!
So I was very happy to meet her on Friday and I really enjoyed the weekend with my sister.
We met in Manchester Picadilly which is like the main train station in Manchester and we spent the whole weekend in this beautiful city.
I was really suprised because some people had told me before that Manchester would be rather rough and not too nice. Others, especially young people said that Manchester is really cool and that I should really experience the Nightlife
So me and my sister, we  were open to experience the city without any prejudices and in the end the city proved the opposite.
We really had a great time in Manchester!!

We did not only visited the Christmas market (where we drank one mulled wine for 5 pounds:D, tried loads of cheese and bought Baklava), but also the urban and trendy area Northern Quarter, the John Ryland's Library, the Art Gallery, China Town, the city centre and many more sights.

I would definitely recommend to visit the John Rylands Library which is part of the University of Manchester. The entrance is free and you can just discover the great Victorian artpiece, wander around, listen to the history of this magical place or just study or do research there.
The funny thing is that the Librar was founded by Enriqueta Ryland, John Ryland's wife, in memory of her husband. She wanted to guarantee everyone access to knowledge and therefore she donated the Library to all students in Manchester. It is the third largest academic library in the United Kingdom and it stores over 250,000 printed volumes, and many manuscripts and archival items.
You can wander around and spot books by Descartes, Hobbes, Shakespeare and many more!

But most of all I liked the area "Northern Quarter". It is an area with many nice restaurants, urban bars, cool thrift shops and nice discos and pubs!! We got some good recommendations for this area so we tried the brunch spot "The koffee Pot", the trendy bar "Whiskey Jar" and the thrift shop "Cow". Wow, I would really love to go shopping in this thrift shop again. They sold pieces from Calvin Klein, Adidas, Champion and many more. It was like a little shopping paradise inside.
We also went to "Wagamama" a restaurant with Asian cuisine.
On our last evening we went to the cinema to watch "Murder on the Orient Express", which is a great movie with Kenneth Branagh, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench, Penélope Cruz. I can only recommend it, it was really worth watching it!
After another nice English breakfast (I had the normal one but my sister tried Vegetarian English breakfast and it was really tasty!!) we had to take the train/ plane back to Lincolnshire/ Cologne but we were both very happy and I decided that I want to visit Manchester again! And next time I will plan one whole day for visiting Liverpool, too. Although I know one day for Liverpool is not enough I really want to visit Liverpool because it is said that the atmosphere is kind of similar to Manchester but even nicer with it's pier.
I am really excited and keep you updated!
But next weekend I will visit Chatsworth (finally) and Yorkshire so that might be very great, too!!

Best wishes,

A.

Loch Earn- Camping for Sailing

Our weekend at Loch Earn   Loch Earn Now I am already 1 month away from home. How the time rushes! I am happy to make all these experiences. We went camping to "Loch Earn" which is a lake. In Scotland one calls a lake a "loch". The English people have difficulties to pronunce that word, but for Scotish people and German it is easy. The kids sailed and therefore we camped all together there. I must admit: This was my first real camping experience. Since then I only camped at festivals like "Rock am Ring". The proper camping is more luxurious than our party-camping. I had a thick, comfy blowing-up matress and also a cushion(!). We had warm showers with seperate cabins and we had enough electricity. That was really good. My host family are camping-experts so they bought everything we need for cooking, drinking, etc. At our first day it was so windy. We managed to build our tents up and as soon as we were inside it started to rain! What a luck! The ...

Inchcolm Abbey and the Royal Gallery

A lonely island next to the city centre- Inchcolm   This Saturday we took the ferry and went to Inchcolm Abbey. It's a beautfiul island in the Firth of Forth in Scotland. From Edinburgh we drove only 15 minutes to get the ferry and it cost 16 pounds to get to the island and back. Your first thought is that "Wow. This is quit expensive", but it was really worth going on the island! The tour was guided so the speaker told us a lot about the history of the 2 finished bridges and the one which is still in progress at the moment. It was really interesting to hear all about the bridges the railway bridge is for example now Scotland's sixth world heritage site. Then we arrived at the island which is cared for by Historic Scotland. On the island there is an abbey from the 12th century which was built by King David the First. The abbey and it's grounds are fully open to the public and it was so nice to wander around. There are a lot of birds on the island. It...

First Day

Start of my journey- Everything new My journey started on 6th May. I travelled by Eurostar to Bruxelles and from there straight to Loughborough. We came to Bruxelles and it was very busy there. Many people were running in different directions. My parents and me had enough time to spend some at a Häagen Dazs Café-quite expensive! But after a coffee americano/ cappuccino and some delicious Häagen Dazs ice-cream(banana/caramel i had to say "Goodbye". It was a sad situation and me and my mother cried (only a little bit!) before I was totally on my own. I managed the tour to London St. Pancras and from threre I had only 30 minutes to catch the East Midlands train to Loughborough. There were some trouble so I arrived 25 minutes later than I planned. But everything turned out fine. Judith catched me up and we drove home to East Leake. A little village with a supermarket, a pub, a butcher, some cafés, a vet, more churches and so on and so forth. She cooked me a perfect meal with...
